The battle broke my spirit. The battle broke my soul. The battle broke me.

But the moment I set foot on the battlefield, I felt as if I had entered a foreign world of excitement, and my heart thumped as if someone was trying to kill me. Perhaps someone was. Perhaps even those, I would believe were my comrades were.
“Rel, get up.”
Those two words were my salvation at the edge of death. Those two words brought me up and wrapped me in the comfort I needed. Those two feelingless cold words warmed my heart and repaired my soul.
“Who are you?”
I was helped up. A broken wing, a broken leg, a broken dragon that I was.
“You did well today, now be at peace.  Your battle is over, you are free.”

I do not have a heroism complex. I am not a narcissitic dragon. I am just obviously happy, happy to have found what I had been looking for, for so long. I needed to find the owner of that voice, the owner of the voice that had haunted me for so long. Not for any reason, but to thank them.

The morning air was crisp, the wind catching on my wings like a knife against the skin.
“I hold it to you not to fail, Rel.”
I grinned back. “Sure thing, Usami-sensei, whatever you say.”
“I’m being dead serious.”
“As am I.”
A dodge there, a hit there, the game was easy, training for an evercoming battle was easy. But at the end, was it all worth the trouble? The ever coming dream of meeting that one was so much more important than this.
“Good, very good, but work on your flame.”
“Chikuso, you just criticize everything I do. It had style.”
Usami shook his head, leaving me to look at the others. He may have been the leader of the Edifys Nexus, but it wasn’t possible for me to respect him so much after living so long with him. The Edifys Nexus, that was who we were. Waiting, always waiting for the next battle to come. This time, we would make sure that we would win. There were ten of us, including both Usami and me. Most were soldiers in the last great battle, before he became commander, but now we were changed, training to become elite soldiers, only under the commander’s commands.
